Overview

Prev Next

Alerts fire when a monitored condition crosses a defined threshold or a specific event occurs on a Host, Instance, or Database. The Overview tab summarizes that activity across your environment so you can spot patterns and high-volume trends, not just individual incidents, before they generate a flood of tickets.

Use the calendar widget to change the date range. The default range is the last seven (7) days.

Alerts can be further filtered by Host, Instance, Alert Category, Severity, Alert, Alert Status, and Tag using the drop-down filters at the top of the screen.

Alert Summary

Five summary cards sit at the top of the Overview tab:

Card What it shows
Critical Count of Critical-severity alerts in the selected date range. Click the card to jump to the Details tab, pre-filtered to Critical severity.
Warning Count of Warning-severity alerts in the selected date range. Click the card to jump to the Details tab, pre-filtered to Warning severity.
Information Count of Information-severity alerts in the selected date range. Click the card to jump to the Details tab, pre-filtered to Information severity.
Noisy Alerts (30D) Count of alerts identified as noisy over the trailing 30 days, ending on the last day of the selected date range.
Total Alerts Sum of Critical, Warning, and Information alerts in the selected date range.
Two different time windows

The Critical, Warning, Information, and Total Alerts cards reflect the date range selected in the calendar widget. Noisy Alerts (30D), along with the three cards below, always look back 30 days from the end date of that range, no matter how narrow or wide the selected range is.

Identifying Noisy Alerts

Three cards help you find the alert activity generating the most volume over the trailing 30 days:

Top Alert Categories

This card displays alert counts for the last 30 days by the category associated with each alert. Alerts are grouped into categories based on the problem or resource bottleneck they represent, helping you identify larger trends rather than isolated incidents.

Noisiest Alerts

This card lists the specific alerts generating the highest firing counts over the last 30 days, so you can quickly see which individual alerts may be creating excessive ticket volume.

Top Resources

This card presents a tabular view of your top Resources (Hosts and Instances) by alert volume over the last 30 days. Resources are sorted by default in descending Critical alert count, but any column can be sorted by clicking its heading. Columns include the Resource Name, Resource Type, and the Critical and Warning alert counts for that resource.

Filtering by Row

Click any row in the Top Alert Categories, Noisiest Alerts, or Top Resources card to jump to the Details tab, pre-filtered to that row's category, alert, or resource.

Top Alerts

This card lists the result count for the Top Alerts in descending order for the selected date range, in a table format, as follows:

  • The Resource column displays the resource name.
  • The Resource Type column displays whether the resource is a Host or Instance.
  • The Alert column displays the name of the alert.
  • The Object column displays the object name if applicable. Common examples include job names and disk drive letters.
  • The Alert Categories column displays the alert categories (if any) that the alert belongs to.
  • The Severity column displays the severity associated with the alert.
  • The Count column displays the count of that alert for that resource for the selected time range.
  • The Last 30 Days column displays a firing trend for that alert and resource over the trailing 30 days.
  • The First Occurrence column displays the first occurrence of that alert for that resource within the selected time range.
  • The Last Occurrence column displays the last occurrence of that alert for that resource within the selected time range.

Click the three-dot action icon at the end of a row to view the Details tab for that resource.

Column Chooser

The slider icon in the upper right corner of the table, on the column label row, allows you to customize which columns are displayed.

Different scope than the cards above

The Top Alerts table reflects the date range selected in the calendar widget, not the trailing 30 days used by the Top Alert Categories, Noisiest Alerts, and Top Resources cards.
