Article summary

The Instances - Overview screen displays high-level information related to the Instance(s) included in the filter. The Environment and Instance filters can be combined to view selected resource data.

The Instances - Overview screen is dividided into 3 sections, Overview, Properties, and Volume Metric Statistics, with each section displaying multiple cards all with data related to the selected Instance(s). The display can be filtered by using the drop-down menus for Environment and/or Instance. A selected filter will persist between the Overview and Details Screen, but if more than one Instance was chosen on the Overview filter, the filter will be reset for the Details screen.

The Date Picker in the upper right corner of the screen allows the selection of a date up to the current date. The data displayed in the Instances - Overview screen will be based on the date chosen. The data will be an aggregation of the 7 days prior to the date chosen, with the date chosen not being included in the aggregation.

Overview

This view displays information for all Instances in the environment or for the Instance(s) selected using the filter(s). The Environment and Instance filters can be combined to view selected resource data.

Instance Availability

Displays information on the availability of Instance(s) by Tier of Service. The displayed value is an average percentage of Availability of all Instances by Tier of Service or as defined by the filter. Availability is percentage of time the Host was up during the week leading up to the selected date and is measured by the ability of the WISdom collector to connect to the Instance for scheduled collections.

  • To sort the list in ascending or descending order, click on the column headings.
  • Click on the row to display a pop-up that lists the Instance, the Availability (%) and Uptime.

Alert Status

Displays information on the status of Alerts defined by either the Open or Closed status and divided between P0/1 or P2 alerts .

  • For more information, see the Alerts section of this manual.

Silencing Window

Displays information on Silencing Windows defined for a specific Instance. Alerts are suppressed within the defined window. Click on the columns to sort in ascending or descending order.

  • For more information, see the Silencing Window section of this manual.

Tier of Service - Instances

Displays information about the Instances assigned to each Service Tier. Service Tiers are defined when initially configuring the instance for monitoring and can be updated at any time in the List screen of the Instances Module.

  • The color-coded bar chart compares the distribution by percentage for each Tier.
  • Click on the row to display a pop-up that lists the Instance(s) included in that Tier.

Monitoring

Displays information on the level of monitoring assigned to each Instance. The Monitoring level is defined when initially configuring the Instance for monitoring and can be updated at any time in the List screen of the Instances Module.

  • To sort the data, click on the column header.
  • Click on a row to display a pop-up that lists the Instance(s) included in that Monitoring level.

Properties

Displays an overview of the Instances being monitored and as defined by the filter, including Instance Resources available, Database Space Allocation and Annual Data Growth, and a breakdown of the number of SQL versions in use by Platform, the Editions of SQL, and Environments to which they are assigned.

Instance Resources

Displays information related to all Instances as defined by the selected filter. The information displayed defined as follows:

  • Instances - The total number of instances currently monitored
  • CPU - The total number of CPUs for all the selected instances
  • Databases - The total number of Non-System Databases for all the selected instances
  • Memory - The total amount of memory allocated to the SQL instances

Database Space Allocation

Displays information about the total amount of space allocated to the SQL Instances and the breakdown of the total allocated Data Space and Transaction Log Space.

  • The color-coded gauge chart compares the distribution of allocated Database Space by percentage. The outer ring shows the percentage of the used Reserved Data Space; the inner ring shows the percentage of used Transaction Log Space (TLOG).
  • Click on Data Space Reserved or TLOG Space Reserved to display a pop-up that provides a breakdown by Instance of the Total Allocated Space and the amount of Free Space.

Annual Data Growth

Displays a visual representation of the total amount of Database Space allocated and used by the SQL Instances, as measured at the end of each month over the past 12 month period. If the target has been monitored for a year, the chart will display the percentage of Data Growth for both the Allocated and Used Space for those past 12 months. Otherwise, it will display the data recorded at the first month end within the time range covered.

  • The color-coded line chart compares Allocated Data Growth to Used Growth. Hover the cursor over the lines to display discrete values by time.
  • Click the Three-dot icon to export the data to Excel or display the chart in a separate window. The new display has slide toggles to filter the display by either allocated or used space.

Instances by Platform

Displays the total Instance count by the SQL version and build. Each total is displayed in a color that corresponds to the visual breakdown represented by the gauge.

  • To view a list of instances per SQL version and build, click on the row to display a pop-up list.
  • Click the Three-dot icon to export the data to Excel or display the data in a separate window. The new display can be sorted by clicking on a column header.

Instances by Edition

Displays the number of Instances by edition. Each number is displayed in a color that corresponds to the visual breakdown by Edition represented on the gauge chart.

  • To view the list of instances for each environment, click on a row to display a pop-up list.
  • Click the Three-dot icon to export the data to Excel or display the data in a separate window. The new display can be sorted by clicking on a column header.

Instances by Environment

Displays the Total Instances by configured Environment. The gage chart visually displays the breakdown by Edition with each total number displayed in a color that corresponds to the gauge ring.

  • To view the list of Instances for each Environment, click on a row to display a pop-up that lists the corresponding Instance Names.

Click the Three-dot icon to export the data to Excel or to display the data in a separate window. The new display can be sorted by clicking on a column header.

Volume Metric Statistics

Displays the configured number of Processors, the Used Memory Buffer (Total Buffer Pool Used), the Total Databases (number of databases on the Instance), and Database Size (allocated space for both data and TLog files).

Instances by Performance

Displays the Average Transactions/second, Average Batch Requests/second, and the Total Amount of CPU utilized during the past week in a table format. CPU utilized is defined by adding the CPU percentages together in a stacked format to display how many processors were used (single CPUs are filled one at a time).

  • To sort the data, click on the column header.
  • Click the Three-dot icon to export the data to Excel or display the data in a separate window. The new display can be sorted by clicking on a column header.
