Overview
WISdom Advisor is an AI-powered assistant that allows you to query your monitoring data using natural language. Instead of navigating through multiple screens and filters, you can ask questions in plain English and receive instant, data-driven insights from your environment.
What You Can Do
- Get executive summaries of complex performance data across databases and instances
- Identify resource bottlenecks and performance issues with natural language queries
- Receive actionable remediation recommendations based on your specific workload
- Analyze job schedules, failures, and resource conflicts
- Understand cost optimization opportunities without manual analysis
Example Questions
- "Which databases have the highest CPU pressure this week?"
- "Show me the top 10 most expensive queries by compute cost."
- "What instances are experiencing memory pressure?"
- "Are there any blocking issues affecting performance today?"
- "Which databases are running in SQL 2012 compatibility mode?"

Writing Effective Questions
Be Specific About Scope
✅ Good:
- "Show CPU pressure on the Production SQL cluster"
- "Which databases in the Finance environment have high blocking?"
❌ Less Effective:
- "Show me CPU"
- "What's wrong?"
Include Time Frames
✅ Good:
- "What were the top blocking queries yesterday?"
- "Show me storage growth over the last 30 days"
❌ Less Effective:
- "What are the top blocking queries?"
- "Show me storage"
Ask for Actionable Insights
✅ Good:
- "What's causing high wait times on DB-PROD-01 and how can I fix it?"
- "Why are jobs failing on Instance-05 and what should I do?"
❌ Less Effective:
- "Tell me about DB-PROD-01"
- "Show me resource-intensive queries on DB-PROD-01."

Privacy and Security
Your Data Stays Isolated
Each WISdom client has a dedicated database tenant in the Fortified Azure environment. WISdom Advisor can only access data within your specific tenant—it is technically impossible for the AI to access data from other WISdom clients.
How WISdom Advisor Works
-
No External Connections: WISdom Advisor uses industry-standard large language models hosted entirely within Fortified's Azure environment. It does not send data to external third-party AI services or connect to the public internet.
-
Tenant-Based Access: The AI engine only has access to your organization's monitoring data stored in your dedicated Azure database tenant.
-
Adaptive Learning: WISdom Advisor adapts to your environment independently, learning your specific workload patterns, database structures, naming conventions, and job schedules without any visibility into other clients' environments.
Query Logging and Feedback
What Gets Logged:
Fortified logs all WISdom Advisor queries and responses for feature improvement and quality assurance. These logs help refine AI accuracy and expand data access capabilities.
Your Feedback Matters:
After each response, you can rate the answer using thumbs up/down buttons. Your ratings are included in the logs and help Fortified improve WISdom Advisor's accuracy and usefulness.
Log Access:
- Only Fortified personnel have access to query logs
- Logs are never shared between clients or used for any other purpose
- Your feedback ratings help improve the AI for all users
Data Security:
- All data transmission uses TLS encryption
- All data at rest is encrypted using Azure encryption standards
- Access to query logs follows the same security protocols as your monitoring data
Current Capabilities and Limitations
What WISdom Advisor Can Do
- Analyze performance metrics and identify bottlenecks
- Explain complex data patterns in plain language
- Provide actionable remediation recommendations
- Compare metrics across instances, databases, and time periods
- Explain cost optimization opportunities
Current Limitations
- Read-Only: WISdom Advisor cannot modify configurations, create alerts, or execute changes—it provides insights and recommendations only
- UI Access Only: Available exclusively through the WISdom web interface (not available via API)
- Module Scope: Limited to Performance and Infrastructure modules (Query Statistics, Blocking, Jobs, Server Resources, Cost Data)
- No External Data: Cannot search external documentation or knowledge bases
Best Practices
Getting the Most Value
-
Start Broad, Then Narrow: Begin with general questions, then ask follow-up questions for specifics
- "What are my biggest performance issues?" → "Tell me more about the blocking on DB-PROD-01"
-
Provide Context: Include relevant details like instance names, time periods, or specific symptoms
- Instead of "Why is it slow?" ask "Why is query performance slow on DB-Finance during business hours?"
-
Ask for Explanations: Don't just ask for data—ask WISdom Advisor to interpret it
- "What's causing the high CPU on Instance-03 and what should I do about it?"
-
Use Follow-Up Questions: Build on previous answers to drill deeper
- First: "Show me blocking issues"
- Follow-up: "Which of these has the highest business impact?"
-
Rate Responses: Use thumbs up/down to help improve accuracy for everyone
Example Conversations
Performance Investigation:
- "What are the slowest queries this week?"
- "Tell me more about the query consuming the most resources"
- "How can I optimize this query?"
Resource Planning:
- "Which instances are running out of disk space?"
- "What's the storage growth rate on my production databases?"
- "Should I add more capacity to any servers?"
Cost Optimization:
- "Where am I spending the most on database infrastructure?"
- "What are my biggest opportunities to reduce costs?"
- "Which databases could be right-sized to save money?"
