Tag Filter
The Tag filter is available on most screens in WISdom. It allows you to scope the current view to hosts, instances, or databases associated with a specific tag, making it easier to focus on a logical group without configuring multiple individual filters.
Tag groups
Section titled “Tag groups”WISdom automatically generates the following tag groups:
| Tag Group | Contents | Update Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Availability Group | All nodes that are members of an Availability Group | Every 15 minutes |
| Listener Name | The primary node of an Availability Group, mapped to its Listener name | Every 15 minutes |
| Top 10% Instances | Instances in the top 10% across Compute and Storage Cost, Data Size, and Transaction Workload | Nightly |
Tags are generated automatically by WISdom and are not manually created or assigned.
Listener Name Mapping
The mapping between Listener names and Availability Groups can be queried directly in SQL Server.
Using the Tag Filter
Section titled “Using the Tag Filter”Select Tag to open the filter panel. A search bar at the top of the panel narrows the visible tag groups as you type. The search matches any part of a name, not just the beginning, and is not case-sensitive.
Tag groups are displayed as accordion rows. The total number of available items in each group is shown in parentheses next to the group name. Select a group name to expand it and view its available options. A pink badge on the group row shows the number of selections currently active within that group. The same badge appears on the Tag button when any tag filters are active.
Each item in a tag group has three states:
| State | Meaning |
|---|---|
| No mark | Not selected; not affecting the current view |
| Checkmark | Included; only the checked items are displayed |
| Minus sign | Excluded; matching items are hidden from the view. Excluded items are displayed with a red strikethrough wherever the filter is shown. |
Select once to include an item (checkmark). Select again to exclude it (minus sign). Select a third time to clear the selection.
Filter logic
Section titled “Filter logic”The combination of checkmarks and minus signs determines what is displayed:
| Selections | Result |
|---|---|
| Checkmarks only | Only the checked items are displayed; all others are hidden |
| Minus signs only | All items are displayed except those marked with a minus sign |
| Checkmarks and minus signs | Only the checked items are displayed; items marked with a minus sign and unmarked items are excluded |
When you have finished making selections, select Apply to update the view. Select Cancel to dismiss the panel without applying changes. Active filters are displayed as chips below the filter bar. Select the X on any chip to remove that filter individually.
