Resources

The Collection - Resources screen is used to manage the Resources (Hosts and Instances) that WISdom monitors.

The display can be filtered by using the drop-down menus for Host, Instance, Data Collector, Profile, Resource Type, and Tag. These filters relate to the columns in the table of the Resources card.

The Search area (magnifying glass in the upper right corner of the screen) provides the ability to search for a string or name, further limiting the Resources displayed in the Resources table.

Resources

Displays a table with sortable columns for the Name, Resource Type, Data Collector, Data Collection Status, Credentials, Profile, and Tags.

  • The Name column displays the name of the resource.
  • The Resource Type column displays the type of resource: Instance or Host.
  • The Data Collector column shows the name of the data collector associated with the resource.
  • The Data Collection Status column displays the status of data collection from the resource.
  • The Credentials column displays the name of the credential in use for collection from that resource.
  • The Profile column displays the name of the Monitoring Profile associated with the resource.
  • The Tags column displays the Tags associated with the resource.

Adding Resource(s)

To add one or more resources to WISdom, click the [+ Resource(s)] button at the top-right corner of the Resources card to display the Add Resource(s) flyout. The flyout contains the following fields:

  • Data Collector - The data collector that will be assigned to the added resource(s).
  • Monitoring Profile - The monitoring profile that will be associated with the added resource(s).
  • Credentials - The credentials that will be used to connect to the added resource(s).
  • Instances List - A carriage return separated list of instances to be added.
    • Note that Hosts are resolved and added automatically for each instance.
  • Tags - specifies one or more Tags to be associated with the added resource(s). (Optional)

Editing Resource(s)

Editing a single resource is done by clicking on the three-dot action icon at the end of that resource's row in the table. Editing multiple resources is possible by checking multiple boxes at the left side of each resource's row in the table and clicking the [Assign Value] button at the top-right corner of the table. Either will launch the Edit Resource flyout for the selected resource(s) with the same values as displayed in the Add Resource(s) flyout for instances and with the addition of the Cost Management options for hosts.

Applying Custom Costs

If custom Storage and Server Types have been defined in Cost Management, they can be applied to Resources of the Host type in the Edit Resource flyout. This can be done individually using the action icon at the end of the row or by selecting multiple hosts and clicking the [Assign Value] button. When opened for one or more hosts (and no other resource types) the flyout will contain two additional fields:

  • The Storage field will allow the association of storage types defined in Cost Management.
  • The Server Type field will allow the association of server types defined in Cost Management.
    • Note that only these and the Credentials and Tags can be edited for hosts.
