Instance Dashboard
The Environment - Instances pages have been renamed and moved to the new Dashboard section of WISdom
The Instance Dashboard provides comprehensive visibility into your SQL Server instances across your infrastructure. This dashboard helps you monitor instance health, track resource utilization, analyze performance patterns, identify capacity planning opportunities, and understand the financial impact of your database workloads through integrated FinOps metrics.
What You'll Find Here
The Instance Dashboard gives you two complementary views of your SQL Server instances:
Overview Tab - A multi-instance view that shows aggregated metrics and trends across your entire environment or filtered subset of instances. Use this view to identify patterns, compare performance across tiers, spot outliers, understand cost distribution, and get a bird's-eye view of your instance health and resource consumption.
Details Tab - A single-instance deep dive that displays detailed configuration, performance metrics, cost analysis, and recommendations for a specific SQL Server instance. Use this view when troubleshooting issues, planning capacity changes, analyzing costs, or reviewing a specific instance's configuration and health.
Key Capabilities
Monitor Instance Health
Track instance availability, alert status, and operational status across your environment. Quickly identify instances experiencing issues or requiring attention.
Analyze Costs and Performance
Understand the financial impact of your database workloads with integrated FinOps metrics. Track monthly and annual costs, monitor transaction efficiency, and identify high-cost operations to optimize spending.
Plan Capacity
Review CPU, memory, and storage allocation across instances. Identify opportunities for consolidation, right-sizing, or expansion based on actual usage patterns.
Track Compliance and Configuration
Monitor SQL Server versions, editions, patch levels, and configuration settings across your environment. Ensure instances meet your organization's security and maintenance standards.
Optimize Resource Distribution
Understand how instances are distributed across environments (Production, QA, Development), platforms (SQL Server versions), editions, and tiers of service.
Assess Database Performance
Review transaction throughput, batch request rates, query performance, and response time patterns to identify performance optimization opportunities.

Filtering Your View
The Instance Dashboard uses a unified filtering approach to help you focus on specific instances or groups:
- Views - Select from pre-configured views to quickly filter instances based on common criteria
- Tag - Filter instances by applied tags (Tier of Service, Environment, etc.)
- Filters - Access the comprehensive filter panel with expandable sections for granular filtering options
- Reset - Clear all active filters to return to the default view
- The Reset does not impact the date selections
Applied filters persist as you switch between any pages in WISdom, helping you maintain context as you explore your infrastructure. Note that the Details tab requires the selection of a single instance. If multiple instances are selected in the Overview tab, you'll need to refine your filter when switching to the Details tab.
Date Selection
The Date Picker in the upper right corner controls configuration data only. Performance metrics always display from today's date.
How the Date Picker Works:
- Select any date up to today to view configuration snapshots (SQL Server version, edition, configuration settings, installed components) from the most recent collection on or before that date
- WISdom collects configuration data daily, so you'll see the instance's setup as of the last successful collection within your selected timeframe
Performance Metrics Display:
Performance charts show data from today's date going backward, regardless of your date picker selection:
- Monthly metrics display the previous 30 days from today
- Annual metrics display up to 1 year from today (or from the collection start date if monitoring began recently)
- Tables displaying annualized data will be labeled accordingly
To analyze performance metrics for specific date ranges, use the Query Statistics or Performance pages, which offer full date range flexibility.
Choosing Your View
Start with Overview when you want to:
- Monitor multiple instances simultaneously
- Identify trends and patterns across your environment
- Compare costs, performance, and resource usage across tiers or environments
- Analyze FinOps metrics to understand database spending
- Find instances that need attention based on capacity, compliance, health, or cost metrics
- Generate lists of instances meeting specific criteria
Switch to Details when you want to:
- Investigate a specific instance's configuration and performance
- Review detailed cost analysis for a single instance
- Check an instance's version, edition, patch level, or configuration settings
- Understand database allocation and resource consumption patterns
- Troubleshoot alerts or performance issues for a specific instance
- Review query performance and batch response characteristics
